Important Update: Tenancy Agreement Review – Next Steps

We have recently consulted with tenants as part of our work to update the tenancy agreement and ensure it remains fair, clear, and up to date. The agreement sets out what you can expect from us as your landlord, as well as what we ask from you as a tenant.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the consultation. Your feedback has been invaluable and is helping to shape the final version of the agreement.

Here’s what we’re doing next based on your feedback:

Co-Producing a Handbook

  • Most tenants felt a handbook could be useful, and 13% of you want to help design it.
  • We’ll be inviting these tenants to work with us to make the handbook clear, practical, and easy to use.
  • The handbook will be especially helpful for new tenants and to make sure housing services are consistent for everyone.

Draft Tenancy Agreement

  • We are revising the agreement to reflect your feedback:
    • Using plain English and making tricky sections easier to understand.
    • Clarifying responsibilities for repairs, inspections, gardens, anti-social behaviour, and neighbour conduct.
    • Considering the needs of vulnerable tenants and making sure accessibility options are clear.

Keeping You Informed & Engaged

  • We’ll produce a simple summary guide and short videos to explain key parts of the agreement.
  • We’ll run Q&A sessions and provide a clear FAQ for staff.
  • Tenants who want to help shape the handbook will be actively involved.

Equality & Inclusion

  • We’ll review feedback from tenants who flagged potential impacts.
  • We’ll contact people directly to understand their concerns better and make sure support is in place.

Legal Check & Implementation

  • Legal Services will review the updated agreement to make sure it is up to date and compliant.
  • We’ll prepare everything for launch, including officer training, updated letters and systems, a communication plan, and integration with housing management processes.

Sign up for MyDacorum – your new customer portal

As part of improving our tenancy services, we’ve launched a new customer portal – MyDacorum. It’s designed to give you a faster, easier and more secure way to manage your council services online.

Through MyDacorum, you can:

  • Make payments (rent, Council Tax, invoices, contents insurance, licence fees, benefit overpayments)
  • Check bin collection dates and set up text reminders
  • Access your Council Tax account through 'Citizens Access' – view statements, make applications and request changes
  • View live rent statements
  • Report complaints or issues
  • Request services (waste equipment, assisted collections, garages)
  • Track technical support requests

You can easily update your details by completing the ‘About You’ survey, available through your MyDacorum account. It’s quick, simple, and helps us improve our services for everyone.

We also want to make sure we have up-to-date information about you, so we can tailor our services to meet your needs. For example, if you tell us about a disability, health condition or mobility need, we can ensure any contractors working in your home are aware and can prioritise your repair requests appropriately.
